M.F.A. student wins Calvino Prize for writing

Geetha Iyer, an M.F.A. student in Iowa State’s Creative Writing and Environment program, was awarded the 2013 Calvino Prize for her story, “The Mongerji Letters.” Entries submitted are fictional pieces in the fabulist experimentalist style of famous Italian writer Italo Calvino. Iyer’s award includes $1,500, publication in the Salt Hill Journal of Syracuse University and a trip in February to the University of Louisville to present her entry at the Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture. The Creative Writing Program at the University of Louisville sponsors the annual competition.
