Sept. 26: Debate watch party and panel discussion

Faculty in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will discuss recent Supreme Court rulings and legal issues that are influencing the upcoming elections including cases on affirmative action, the death penalty, judicial conflict of interest, protections from illegal searches by the police, and abortion rights. Discussion begins at 6 p.m. Watch party begins at 8 p.m.

Catalysis research could be used to fight bacterial infections

The biological world has unparalleled abilities to control structures, functions, reactions and energy transfer with great efficiency and accuracy. Yan Zhao, professor of chemistry and a member of Iowa State’s Center for Catalysis, uses biomimetic chemistry to “abstract good design from nature,” which could one day be used to fight bacterial infections.

Study compares student journalists and professional media

Voters learn a lot about presidential candidates from the stories they read in the paper or watch on the evening news. According to an Iowa State analysis of presidential election coverage, college newspapers focus more on the issues and candidate profiles, while professional papers report more on political polling and strategy.

Registration open for inaugural Black and Brown Male Empowerment Symposium

Iowa State University, through a collaboration of the Division of Student Affairs, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences; Engineering; Human Sciences; Business; Liberal Arts and Sciences; Design; and Graduate College, will host the inaugural Black and Brown Male Empowerment Symposium on Saturday, October 8, 2016. The purpose of the symposium is to offer a space for men of color to discuss issues which impact them.
