Congratulations to grant award recipients
Congratulations to LAS faculty who were awarded grant funding from two college initiatives.
The LAS Humanities Scholarship Enhancement Initiative (HSEI) is a research initiative designed to encourage and assist LAS humanities faculty seeking to enhance their scholarly productivity and impact by funding course releases awarded through a competitive process.
Two faculty members received awards from this initiative:
- Jo Mackiewicz, professor in the Department of English, for “Welding Technical Communication: Teaching and Learning Embodied Knowledge.”
- Michele Schaal, associate professor in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, for “The Art of Genre- and Genderbending: Virginie Despentes’s Authorial Politics.”
The LAS Seed Grants for Social Sciences provide competitive funding to enhance scholarly research in the social sciences and enable collection of preliminary data in support of future extramural grant proposals.
Current recipients of awards from this initiative include:
- Jonathan Kelly, professor in the Department of Psychology, for “Adaptation to cybersickness.”
- Charles Nagle, associate professor in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, for “Understanding motivation and retention in university language learning: What do students say about their K-12 learning experience?”
- Andrew Somerville, assistant professor in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, for “The Archaeology of Social Collapse at Teotihuacan, Mexico.”
- Shenglan Zhang, associate professor in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, for “Using Multimedia to Enhance Foreign Language Learners’ Grammar Learning.”
