Iowa State University faculty members Guru Rao and Amy Andreotti were honored March 6 as Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust Professors in Biochemistry, Biophysics and Molecular Biology (BBMB). In a special ceremony, Iowa State President Steven Leath, along with Dean Beate Schmittmann and Dean Wendy Wintersteen, presented each researcher a medallion signifying them as holders of the new professorships.
In 2012 ISU’s Department of BBMB was named in honor of the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust for its ongoing support of the department. This support includes a $7.5 million commitment, over five years, to support strategic research initiatives in biomolecular structure. A better understanding of the complex structure of biomolecules is essential for new discoveries in wide-ranging areas important to human, plant and animal life.
Rao is professor and chair of the Roy J. Carver Department of BBMB, and Andreotti is a professor of biochemistry.
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences jointly administer BBMB.
