CEAH to host Fall lecture on “Scholars as Partners Within and Beyond the University” November 13

The Center for Excellence in the Arts and Humanities will be holding its Fall lecture on Thursday, November 13 in 2155 Marston Hall. The lecture with Dr. Andre Klumpp from the Historical Society of Iowa will begin at 5pm.

Dr. Klumpp will speak on “The Work We Do Together: Scholars as Partners Within and Beyond the University.” He’ll be focusing on bridging the divide between scholars working at universities and public programs happening beyond the university. This talk will be especially impactful for the faculty and students working in or interested in community-engaged research and in extension/outreach opportunities for the Liberal Arts & Design.

About Dr. Klumpp:

Andrew Klumpp, PhD, is a public historian working at the State Historical Society of Iowa where he oversees the Society’s public programs, educational initiatives, and community outreach. Each year, the education and public programming team interacts with over 23,000 individuals ranging from preschoolers to lifelong learners in contexts as diverse as museum exhibit tours, teacher professional developments, and community festivals. Since 2020, he has served as the editor of the Society’s award-winning academic history journal, The Annals of Iowa.

Klumpp is a native of Northwest Iowa. He completed his bachelor’s degree at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa before completing his master’s degree at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and PhD at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. His writing and research are split between two distinct interests: the role and legacy of state institutions and history, and Dutch empire, regionalism, religion, and immigration in the nineteenth century.
