To meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Justice’s final rule under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, all digital content created and used by ISU for an employee to be successful in their job and a student to be successful in their courses must be made digitally accessible. Based on the DOJ’s recommendations for higher education institutions, the most efficient route for this is through a compiled catalog. The ITS Digital Accessibility Team will guide departments through a phased process to:
- Inventory digital assets
- Prioritize remediation of inaccessible content
- Develop long-term sustainment plans
Departments will receive guided templates, timelines, and support for this project beginning August 18th. Department Chairs and Supervisors will be asked to coordinate this effort with their teams. For assistance, the digital accessibility team has compiled several tools available at no cost to faculty and staff to assist through automation and AI (e.g., Anthology Ally for Canvas).
All faculty, staff, and students (student version will be in Canvas) must also complete accessibility training by Dec 31, 2025.
