This fall, University Museums at Iowa State University is offering many free programs and events. All events are open to the public and are relevant to exhibitions at the Brunnier Art Museum, Christian Petersen Art Museum, Farm House Museum, Anderson Sculpture Garden and the Art on Campus Collection.

“Program offerings this semester include a range of experiences,” said Lilah Anderson, University Museums Curator of Education. “Whether you frequent museums or have never stepped into a gallery, there is something for you. This semester there are many cross-disciplinary topics. The breadth of activities shows how many ways there are to interact with a community museum space.”

Programming made possible through support from the Kathy and John Howell Art Enrichment Program, the Offices of the Vice President for Research and the Senior Vice President for the Division of Operations and Finance.

Programs and events are subject to change. Check the University Museums website and Facebook page for the latest events information. Registration is encouraged but not required.

Charles Ginnever Inside/Outside Party

Location: Christian Petersen Art Museum and Anderson Sculpture Garden

Interact with Charles Ginnever’s sculptures from multiple perspectives. Enjoy the start of the Fall semester with refreshments and conversation; experience both exhibitions
by the renowned sculptor.

Sunday Tours with the University Museums: Arte Cubano

August 29, 2021, 2:00 PM – 2:30 PM

Location: Brunnier Art Museum

Journey through the exhibition Arte Cubano and learn about the varied artistic expressions found in contemporary Cuban art. Discover the diverse cultural blend
of African, European, and Latin/Caribbean influences that make Cuban art unique. Sunday Tours are thirty-minute highlight tours of the University Museums collection.

Outdoor Film Screening of “The Current War”

Location: Farm House Museum west lawn

Hosted by the University Museums’ interns! In conjunction with the exhibition Flicker and Flame, this exciting movie chronicles three brilliant visionaries who set off in a charged battle for the future of electrical lighting. It’s the epic story of the cutthroat competition that literally lit up the modern world. Be sure to arrive early to set up your blanket or lawn chair and get some ice cream from the ISU Creamery!

Student Innovation Center at Twilight

September 2, 2021, 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM

Location: Student Innovation Center Interior Courtyard

Experience the newly installed public art of award-winning artist Catherine Widgery as the light changes from day to dusk; twilight is a perfect time. Join in activities
inspired by the art and enjoy pizza and refreshments. Make a letterpress print & a craft.

Art Walk: Experiencing Art at the Intersections of Cultures with Dr. Sebastian Braun

September 8, 2021, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Location: Border Crossing sculpture by Luis Jiménez, central campus

Art influences society by changing opinions, imparting values, and translating many different experiences through space and time. The Art on Campus Collection is
over 2,500 works of art. This Art Walk will explore how the fusion of cultures has influenced the Art on Campus Collection.

Gallery Walk of Arte Cubano with Anne Pagel, Curator, Robert and Karen Duncan Collection

September 12, 2021, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Location: Brunnier Art Museum

Gain a unique perspective from Anne Pagel, the curator of the private lender’s collection, as she discusses the artists included in Arte Cubano. This gallery
walk will guide visitors through the museum to explore the diverse art and artists in the exhibition.
