Winter break officially begins at the conclusion of the fall semester on Nov. 26, ending Jan. 24, 2021. The university will be open and fully operational, with the exception of winter partial closing outlined below. Staff are expected to engage in their regular responsibilities on a full-time basis unless arrangements for vacation usage have been made with their supervisor. Expectations for faculty during this period of time can be found here: Guidance for Faculty Responsibilities.
Some departments and units may transition to 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. hours during the break. Department chairs, program directors and LAS administration supervisors will communicate any hours modifications and operational expectations. Staff should reach out to supervisors as soon as possible to discuss work arrangements during the break.
With the addition of two university holidays that were approved and announced by President Wintersteen yesterday, we will observe the following eight holidays during this winter break period:
More information about the two additional holidays that were added for this year can be found here: 2020 Additional Holidays FAQ
With the additon of a winter session, details about operations during that time were developed: Guidance for University 2020-2021 Winter Calendar
As in years past, the university will observe winter partial closing for the period of Dec. 24 – Jan. 3. On these dates, the university will reduce all services to promote time off for employees and support a reduction in energy costs. Staff should utilize accrued vacation leave, or an employee may opt for taking ‘unpaid days’ (referred to in the past as unpaid leave) to reserve a vacation accrual for future usage. Due to university holidays during this time, the remaining work days for which vacation or ‘unpaid days’ would apply are Dec. 28-30 and Dec. 31.
