Office of the Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion to host “What should I do? White action and accountability to combat anti-blackness on systems-based racism.”

{Note: This virtual event will be held on Wednesday, June 17 from 3:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. Please register here}

The Office of the Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion will be hosting a virtual Campus Conversation entitled “What should I do? White action and accountability to combat anti-blackness and systems-based racism.”

This conversation is a result of a meeting of the minds of concerned faculty and staff who, in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the antipolice brutality protests, wanted to do something to inform White colleagues on campus about what they should (and should not) be doing to combat racism at Iowa State University (and to take that burden off of our colleagues of color).

The panel will be led by faculty and staff members who were nominated by colleagues of color because they are already engaged in antiracism work. They include myself, Sebastian Braun (Director of American Indian Studies), Brad Dell (Director of Theater), Lindsay Moeller (Staff Recruiting Specialist in University Human Relations), and Katy Swalwell (Associate Professor, School of Education).

This panel will focus on things that White faculty and staff (the conversation is for faculty and staff, students will not participate) can do to confront racism, inequity, and other forms of discrimination and bias at Iowa State University. Our goal is to focus on action and to offer useful resources that White folks can use in their daily and professional lives to address these issues. The conversation will take place on Wednesday, June 17, from 3:00-5:00.

This is a virtual gathering, space is limited and folks will need to register for the conversation. Please follow the link below for more information and for the registration:
