Assistant Professor of Theatre Cason Murphy performed as Nick Bottom, one of William Shakespeare’s most famous comic characters, in Pyramus & Thisby: The Most Lamentable Comedy on April 10, 2020.
This innovative, quarantine-friendly, hour-long adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” served as the premiere of the new “Self-Isolated Shakespeare” series from Scenic City Shakespeare in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
This special performance was created in response to the shutdown of theatres and public spaces as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Murphy was cast in the production from an international pool of actors, and after two weeks of rehearsals, he and 13 other actors over 500 miles apart live-streamed video from their own homes and yards, which were then presented in tandem with one another online across several social media platforms.
