United Way Day of Caring is a community-wide day of service to kick off the 2018 United Way campaign! LAS volunteers will be helping with a gardening project at Reiman Gardens from 9:00 a.m. – 12 p.m. To sign up, please email moellerl@iastate.edu. You will also receive a free United Way T-shirt.

2018 LAS United Way Campaign:
United Way of Story County’s (UWSC) mission is to improve lives. Every dollar donated to United Way makes an impact in the lives of our neighbors, students and colleagues. For example, UWSC is very focused on investing your local dollars to meet specific needs in our community. Here in Story County, they have identified three core needs:
Education — Grade level reading is a predictor of future academic and economic success. Your dollars will support programs that help children catch up in reading.
Income — 42% of Iowa households with incomes of $50,000 or less use alternative financial products (payday lending, pawnshops, rent-to-own, non-bank check cashing or money orders). Your dollars will support financial literacy as well as food pantry assistance.
Health — 1 in 4 children in Story County qualify for free or reduced lunch. Some buildings have rates as high as 50%. Your dollars will support programs like the BackPack Program to make sure kids have healthy food over the weekend and school breaks.

Donations are needed! Ideas could include baked goods, gift cards, event passes or tickets, themed gift baskets and more.
Highest bidders will be contacted by LAS UWSC co-chairs with instructions for payment and pickup
