Beate Schmittmann, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, announced an opening for an interim associate dean for research and graduate studies. The interim appointment will be made July 1, 2018 and continue until a permanent appointment is made. Faculty members interested in exploring this position are invited to contact Dean Schmittmann.
Bill Gutowski, current associate dean for research and graduate studies, will transition back to a faculty role July 1.
“I thank Bill for his service in the associate dean role,” said Schmittmann. “His recent selection as lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will require a great deal of time. I support his decision to devote his time to this critical research, which will bring a high level of visibility to LAS and Iowa State University.”
Going forward, the full-time position will be restructured into two part-time positions: One focused on moving research forward in the college, and one focused on graduate studies and faculty development. Searches for these positions will begin in late August and be open to ISU faculty. Permanent appointments are expected to be announced towards the end of Fall 2018.
Faculty members who would like to discuss these opportunities are also invited to contact Dean Schmittmann: schmittb@iastate.edu or call Gaye Simonson to schedule a time for an informal conversation with the dean: 515.294.3220.
