Learn how to advance your research at ISU Research Orientation Tuesday, Aug. 29, 8:30-11 a.m., Campanile Room, Memorial Union
New faculty will have an opportunity to meet and network with their peers, and learn about the role of the Office of the Vice President for Research and how we support faculty’s research careers. VPR Sarah Nusser will host an interactive discussion with new faculty about the ISU research landscape and supporting programs. OVPR staff will be on hand to answer questions about various components of the research life cycle at Iowa State and how the OVPR can help faculty throughout the process. Register here.

Get your NIH and NSF responsible conduct of research training Thursday and Friday, Sept. 7-8, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Gold Room, Memorial Union
Faculty, staff, and postdocs who receive funding through NSF or certain NIH grants can participate in a two-day OVPR "boot camp" that will satisfy NIH and NSF requirements for training in the Responsible Conduct of Research. A light breakfast will be provided each day. The workshop will feature a flipped classroom format; you will be asked to do some reading beforehand so that session time can be dedicated to discussion. Bring your laptops to this hands-on Grants Hub training where you will learn how to strategically use websites and proprietary databases to identify and connect with funding opportunities and to set up saved searches, shared opportunities, and receive funding alert emails. Register here.

Navigate your research with human subjects Wednesday, Sept. 13, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Gold Room, Memorial Union
An Institutional Review Board (IRB) staff member will walk through key sections of the non-exempt IRB application and explain what the IRB looks for during the review process. You will learn tips on developing and submitting protocols to the IRB. Register here.
