Marquart’s “Lament” chosen for inclusion in Best American Poetry 2016 anthology

Debra Marquart’s poem, "Lament," was chosen for inclusion in the Best American Poetry 2016 anthology. The guest editor – each year a poet of high reputation – chooses from the thousands of poems that have been published in magazines and literary journals around the country, narrowing the choices to the 60 or so best poems published in the previous calendar year.

Marquart, a professor of English, will read her poem at the launch event at the New School Writing Program in New York City on Sept. 22, 2016. The New School Writing Program has hosted this launch event for 15 years.

Marquart also collaborated with Ingrid Lilligren, professor chair of the Department of Art and Visual Culture in the College of Design, in an exhibit at the Design on Main gallery. Lilligren translated select poems of Marquart’s into Braille, then fired the poems (in Braille) into ceramic sculptures. The work is on display through Sept. 25th.
