Do you need one more reason to visit the Iowa State Fair this August? Two distinguished representatives of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will have their portraits painted at the Fair as part of Iowa State University’s Your Beautiful Adventure exhibit.

The Your Beautiful Adventure exhibit will be on display in the Fair’s Varied Industries Building and will feature artistic interpretations of Iowa State’s historic campus and diverse art collection. As part of the exhibit, Iowa artist Rose Frantzen will paint portaits of 20 distinguished Iowa State alumni and friends who represent the spirit of an Iowa State education and experience.

To represent the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Frantzen will paint world-renowned opera singer and Iowa State music professor Simon Estes and Iowa Public Radio’s Talk of Iowa host Charity Nebbe (political science, English, biology ’97). You have heard their iconic Iowa voices—now you can see their portraits come to life at the Fair.

Each portrait sitting will last three to four hours and will take place in the Varied Industries building.

Nebbe’s portrait sitting will take place Thursday, Aug. 11 at 4:00 p.m.

Estes’ portrait sitting will take place Saturday, Aug. 20 at 11:00 a.m.

Following the 2016 Iowa State Fair, the portrait series will become a permanent part of Iowa State’s Art on Campus collection.
