Rebecca Flint, assistant professor of physics and U.S. Department of Energy Ames Laboratory associate, was awarded the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Early Career Research Program award. Flint is one of only 44 scientists across the nation to receive the award.
Dr. Rebecca FlintFlint, a condensed matter theorist, will receive $750,000 over a five-year period for her work on "Exotic Kondo Phases: the non-Kramers Doniach phase diagram." Her research will explore new, "theoretically motivated ways to generate new phases with exotic phenomena realizable in real materials."
The award is designed to bolster the nation’s scientific workforce by providing support to exceptional researchers during the crucial early career years, when many scientists do their most formative work. Flint was also recently awarded the National Science Foundation’s CAREER award for her research of spin liquids.
Flint has a Ph.D. in physics from Rutgers University and held the Simons Postdoctoral Fellowship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
