Around the college: Faculty receive honors, secure grants

Jay Newell, associate professor in the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, and Steve Rodermel, Distinguished Professor in the Department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology, have been named Exemplary Faculty Mentors.

Newell and Rodemel will be recognized on May 4 from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Cardinal Room at the Memorial Union.

Tracy Lucht, assistant professor in the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, and Amy Erica Smith, assistant professor of political cience, have been awarded $5,000 for their proposal, “Strategies for Being Productive and Getting Recognized: Strengthening the Ranks of Women Faculty at ISU.” Lucht and Smith will be filing a report on the outcome of their grant next year.

Jeff Trimarchi, assistant professor in the Department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology, is the recipient of a 2016 University Honors Committee Award for Excellence in Honors Teaching and Mentoring. Trimarchi was nominated by students in the ISU Honors program. The recognition carries a monetary award of $500.

Dianne Bystrom, Director of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center, is the first recipient of the Iowa Network for Women for Higher Education (IOWAWHE) Distinguished Higher Education Leadership Award. She was honored at a reception on April 8. The award recognizes excellent work done by leaders in higher education.
