Assistant professor Justin Remes talked with Talk of Iowa host Charity Nebbe about how Star Wars became an unexpected phenomena when the movies were released in the 1970s. Remes discusses the shift in culture and audience expectations as the movie franchise introduced the notion of a summer blockbuster to the country.

"It’s just this tremendous sense of spectacle you get in the Star Wars film. People were going nuts not so much because they were interested in the plot, for example, but because they wanted to see something really fresh and new,” said Remes.
