ISU Soccer hosts Military Appreciation Day

Cyclone fans rallied to support both the women’s soccer team and the military this past Sunday, October 4, as ISU Soccer hosted Military Appreciation Day. Members of the Cyclone Battalion, along with veterans and active service members, enjoyed free admission to the game to watch the Cyclones take on the Kansas Jayhawks.

“It was an extremely gratifying experience to see so much appreciation here at Iowa State University for our armed services,” said MIDN 2/C Sam Kallas. “Events like these are a lot of fun for everyone involved, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the military community here at ISU will accomplish in the years to come."

At half time, both the Navy and Marine option midshipmen went toe-to-toe with the other service’s ROTC cadets in a fierce game of tug-of-war. Army beat Air Force in the first round, followed by the Marine options beating Navy. The final round saw Army and Marine options locked in a vicious struggle for first place. Despite a valiant effort by the midshipmen, Army pulled ahead at the end to seize victory.

Smiles and handshakes went around after the competition; showing that no matter what uniform they wore, these cadets and midshipmen were on the same team.
