Dance Marathon: Creating history

CATEGORIES: Uncategorized

Dance Marathon is a life changing event that I have had the pleasure to participate in for the past three years.  It is the largest student organization on campus and helps raise money for the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.  Students pledge to stand on their feet for twelve hours for those who can’t.  The day of is a huge celebration of life where college students can act like a kid again along with making best friends with miracle children and their families.

This year instead of having just one day of events, this amazing organization created a weekend with two shifts, one from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and the other ran from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.  Since there were two shifts there were two fundraising reveals at each shift.  For shift one students raised more than $24,000 in twelve hours which was amazing.  For the final reveal, Iowa State Dance Marathon raised more than $444,000 this year creating Iowa State Dance Marathon history.  I was proud to be one of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences students that participated and helped make history while connecting to a great cause.
