Seven from LAS among 19 ISU student leadership awardees

Seven College of Liberal Arts and Sciences students were recognized for receiving Iowa State’s highest honors and scholarships at the university’s Student Leadership Awards Ceremony on April 13.

A total of 19 students across the university were honored.

The annual ceremony recognizes students who display outstanding character, academic achievement, community engagement and leadership, said Kathleen Harrison, communications and program coordinator with the Office of the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs.

“The awards and ceremony are meant to recognize the achievements of these outstanding students,” said Harrison. “It’s a special moment for them to also be recognized by President Leath and Senior Vice President Tom Hill.”

Four university awards featured the seven LAS honorees:

Wallace E. Barron All-University Senior Award This award recognizes outstanding seniors who display high character, outstanding achievement in academics and university/community activities, and promise for continuing these exemplary qualities as alumni.

Spencer Hughes- Speech Communication and Political Science
Benjamin Jacobson- Industrial Engineering and Spanish
Deepak Premkumar- Economics, Global Resource Systems, and Mathematics

Sesquicentennial Learning to Live a Life Leadership Award This award recognizes outstanding efforts by a junior or senior student to take advantage of opportunities at Iowa State to apply his or her knowledge and leadership skills to real life projects.

Deborah Lincow- Genetics

Sandra and Lynn Davis Leadership Award This award recognizes a senior who has been a leader in any capacity on campus.

Krista Klocke- Speech Communication and Communication Studies

Charles F. Frederiksen Leadership Award This award recognizes the contributions of a student in a leadership role within Iowa State’s Department of Residence.

Samuel Sparland- Chemical Engineering and Biochemistry
Megan Dodd- Psychology
