Eight graduate programs within or shared by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University are ranked in the top 50 among American public universities according to U.S. News & World Report graduate school rankings released March 11.

Statistics is the highest-ranked LAS graduate program at 11th in the nation among public universities and 19th overall out of 79 programs ranked by USN&WR.

LAS’ other highest-ranked programs include Chemistry (28th among publics, 45th overall of 159 ranked programs), Physics (30th among publics, 50th overall of 151 ranked programs) and Economics (30th among publics, 55th overall of 80 ranked programs). The remaining top 50 programs among public universities are Computer Science, Mathematics, Biological Sciences and Psychology.

Additional ranked programs in LAS are Sociology, Earth Sciences, Public Affairs, English, Fine Arts and History.

The magazine listed additional U.S. graduate programs in each discipline, but did not rank them because they did not score above a designated level.

USN&WR reported it analyzed more than 1,300 graduate programs to compile the rankings. The magazine annually publishes new rankings for some disciplines and includes previous rankings for others.
